As LGBTQ+ bars seem to be slipping away in Toronto, we decided to take our first baby, Yard Sale Bar, and go back to our roots, to what we originally wanted to bring to the Leslieville neighbourhood. As east end lesbians, it's always been slim pickings for a local night out and so we elevated our gay-friendly cocktail bar to a no holds barred celebration of our history & culture.
Drawing from the struggles of our relentless sisters, we named our bar after a small group of lesbians who fought for recognition in the 70's feminist movement after feeling ignored, silenced, and shunned for being gay. We owe so much to our past, not only the original Menace, but all the gay men, lesbians, trans, and bi people, and LGBTQ+ allies, who fought so hard for LGBT recognition & rights around the world, and those who continue even now.
So we created a cozy space which caters to all people, from all walks of life, no matter what. Whether you're gay, lesbian, bi, trans, queer, non-binary, straight, or anything in-between, as long as you are friendly and non-judgmental, you're welcome here.
Inside our doors, we seek to not only serve killer cocktails you won't find anywhere else and mouth-watering food from a chef with 25 years experience under her belt, but also create a free space for self-expression, respect, LGBT+ history, music, and yes, even a few books.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours. Interested in making a large party (6 or more) reservation or holding a private event? Hit us up, and we'll talk.
